Community Health Assessment

The mission of the Central Valley Health District is the promotion of optimal community health.

In addition to, providing comprehensive health services to Jamestown, North Dakota and surrounding communities in Stutsman and Logan counties, the Central Valley Health District (CVHD) is the lead agency for eight counties in southeast central North Dakota. Programs include: Nursing, Environmental Health,  Family Planning, WIC, Women’s Way, Tobacco Prevention, Emergency Preparedness and Response, HIV/STD testing, Immunizations, Car Seat and Safety, OPOP (Optimal Pregnancy Outcome Program), School Health, and The Sexual Assault Response Team.

The history of CVHD is one of growth and expansion and of change in response to the evolving health needs of the people. It began in October of 1973 when the Jamestown City Health Department merged with the Stutsman County Health Department becoming the first combination of its kind in the state.

1970 - Family Planning Program began
1973 - Combined the City and County nurses into one Unit – 6 employees
1974 - Implemented EPSDT
1975 - Sanitarian Services
1977 - Logan County added
1978 - Title III program in LaMoure, Dickey and McIntosh counties
1980 - WIC Stutsman County
1982 - WIC Logan County
1982 - Jail Health Care
1988 - HIV testing site
1992 - Tobacco Program began
1994 - HIV education was offered in the schools
1995 - Women’s Way Program
1996 - Contract with the vocational center for teaching health careers class
1997 - OPOP program begins
2002 - Emergency Preparedness and Response program started
2004 - Small Pox vaccinations of health care workers
2005 - Moved to a new facility
2006 - October – new administrator Robin Iszler
2007 - SART Program
2007 - First increase in State aid dollars from the legislative session since 1999
2007 - Change to immunizations – billing of vaccine to health insurance plans
2009 - Increase in State Aid dollars was given.  Also funding for collaborations
2009 - Measure 3 was passed – changed the structure of tobacco funding.
2009 - Grant for Chronic Disease Management – HRSA – partnership with Barnes County City-County Health Department
2009 - CVHD is part of the PHAB accreditation process for testing public health accreditation.
2010 - Regional Services Pilot Program
