Emergency Preparedness & Response

Is your family prepared for Severe Summer Weather?

One of the easiest things that anybody can do to prepare for severe weather is to purchase a NOAA Weather Radio with battery backup. These radios are available from a variety of retailers locally and on-line ranging in price from $20 to $200 depending on features selected. Most newer radios can be programmed to alert only for a specific county using a SAME Code. There are also special-needs weather radios available that have been adapted to aid the deaf and the hard of hearing community that enables them to receive notification of the existence of a life-threatening hazardous conditions.

This document from the National Weather Service goes more into depth about preparedness activities for all types of severe summer weather. The Are You Prepared? An Emergency Guide for Stutsman County has additional information regarding local preparedness and planning for Jamestown and Stutsman County. The Are You Prepared? An Emergency Guide for Barnes County has additional local information for people living in Valley City and Barnes County. Visit the National Weather Service Summer Weather in North Dakota page for more information.

About Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response

Central Valley Health District works with the North Dakota Department of Health, public safety agencies, and other community groups to plan and prepare for disasters or emergency situations. This is in conjunction with local all hazards emergency planning, preparedness and response.

Central Valley Health District is part of an eight-county region established by the State of North Dakota for emergency preparedness and response planning. Counties included in our region are: Barnes, Dickey, Foster, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh, Stutsman, and Wells

An emergency response coordinator, environmental health practitioner, and a public information officer serve the eight counties within the Southeast Central Region. Their work is funded in part by federal grants and is focused on public health emergencies. This is done through public education and planning which involves partnerships for enhanced regional response plans and capabilities.
