Nursing Services

Central Valley Health District provides nursing services in locations throughout Stutsman and Logan counties.   Special programs are also available.  There are no income or age eligibility requirements and no one is denied service due to inability to pay.  CVHD accepts donations for nursing services.  Click here for suggested donation list. Newborn Follow-up, Car Seat, Safety Programs

Central Valley Health District Office:

Nurses are available to see clients for the following services during regular office hours (no appointment necessary unless indicated):

  1. Health Assessments including

    1. Blood Pressure

    2. Blood Sugar Testing

    3. Hemoglobin Testing

    4. Urinalysis Screening

    5. Vital Sign Monitoring

    6. Height and Weight

    7. Ear checks (infection, wax)

    8. Ear Irrigations

  1. Throat Cultures

  2. TB (tuberculosis) Testing

  3. Lipid profile (cholesterol) monthly (by appointment only)

  4. Foot-care clinics 3 times monthly (by appointment only)

  5. Immunizations

  6. Medication monitoring and setup

  7. Therapeutic purposes by Doctor's order (i.e. dressing changes, suture removal, catheter care, etc)

  8. Allergy Injections

  9. Lice Checks

  10. Rash Assessments

Homes:

Home visits are scheduled by appointment which is limited to once per week per client.  All ages are eligible for home visitations, newborn to elderly. Clients may receive home visitations by an RN for the following services:

  1. Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiration monitoring

  2. Blood Sugar Testing

  3. Medication Set Up and Monitoring

  4. Foot Care

  5. Pro Time Testing

  6. Weight Monitoring

  7. Other Nursing Services by Doctor Orders

Home clients must met a minimum of two of the following criteria:

  1. Limited mobility without assistance

  2. Visual handicap

  3. Dementia

  4. Dexterity problems

  5. Inability to complete task without supervision

  6. Unstable medical condition

  7. Physician order

Referrals can be made by:

Clients themselves or Family Members

Physicians, Nurses, Other Health Care Providers

Schools, Social Workers, Other Agencies, or Concerned Citizens

Schools:

Nurses conduct regular school visitations: weekly to Jamestown Public Schools and 4 times yearly to county schools.  Services provided include:

Heights and weights

Vision Screening

Scoliosis Screening

Health Appraisals

Health Education

Individual Health Counseling for Students/Teachers

Health Maintenance clinics are conducted by nurses who provide the following services at the locations listed below:

  1. Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiration Monitoring

  5. Supervision of Prescription Medications

  6. Health counseling

  7. Immunizations

  8. Foot and Nail care

Special Programs:

1.  OPOP (Optimal Pregnancy Outcome Program)

A three member team (nurse, social worker, and nutritionist) approach to provide pregnant women with information and guidance.  This enables women to make healthy lifestyle choices to help them to have the healthiest baby possible.  OPOP services are designed to be in addition to prenatal care by a doctor, and are not intended to be used in place of regular physician visits.  Appointments are necessary.  OPOP clinics are held two Wednesdays per month.

2.  Newborn Follow-Up

CVHD contacts all mothers who deliver at Jamestown Hospital by phone and/or home visitation to offer health information and counseling regarding normal and/or abnormal happenings postpartum and for the newborn.

3.  Car Seat Program

CVHD offers car seat education and car seats to families.  Parents must review video information prior to receiving a car seat.  Available car seats include infant, toddler, and booster seats.  A minimal donation is requested for the car seats.  No loan program for car seats is available.

4.  Injury Prevention Programs

CVHD conducts bicycle safety programs, safety information for latch-key children, and buckle-up (seat belt) safety information.
