Cholesterol

ALL ABOUT YOUR LIPID PROFILE

What is a Lipid Profile?

This group of tests measures the amount of cholesterol and other fats in your blood.

Why I Should Get a Lipid Profile Screening?

Understanding and improving cholesterol is important for men, women and children of all ages. High cholesterol contributes to a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), such as heart disease and stroke.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy, fatlike substance in your blood. Cholesterol is essential for good health, but too much of the bad kind of cholesterol can put you at a higher risk of heart disease or stroke.

It’s important to check your cholesterol to make sure you’re at a healthy level — and healthy lifestyle habits like eating a healthy and balanced diet, moving your body, and eliminating tobacco use can all help you better manage your cholesterol levels.

What should I do if I have concerns about my cholesterol?

  • Call CVHD to get a lipid profile screening.
  • Read more about prevention, management, and treatment of high cholesterol from the American Heart Association by visiting their website.
  • Talk with your healthcare provider!
